Abstract

Code clones can happen in any software project. One of the challenges is that, code clones come in various forms which makes them hard to detect using standard templates. Due to this variety in structure and form of semantically similar clones, machine learning techniques are required to detect them. Recently in many domains, e.g., natural language processing, deep neural networks drew a lot of attention due to their accuracy. In this paper, we exploit the results of some convolutional neural networks for code summarization to find the code clones. We use the generated descriptions for two code snippets as a metric to measure the similarities between them. We propose a vector similarity measure to calculate a similarity indicator between th

New Evidence on the Effects of the Shortened School Duration in the German States: An Evaluation of Postsecondary Education Decisions.

New Evidence on the Effects of the Shortened School Duration in the German States: An Evaluation of Postsecondary Education Decisions. German Economic Review, 20 (4), 201-253. https://doi.org/10.1111/geer.12162
Abstract

Most German states have recently reduced the duration of university preparatory schooling from 13 to 12 years without changing the graduation requirements. We use nationwide data on high school graduates and the different timing of reform introduction in the federal states to identify the effects on post‐secondary education decisions and to evaluate potential effect mechanisms. The results show that university enrolment of female students decreased in the first year after graduation in all analyzed states, whereas participation in voluntary service or staying abroad increased. Furthermore, students from non‐academic families are more affected than students from an academic family background

Abstract

The authors develop a conceptual framework explaining monetary returns to international student mobility (ISM). Based on data from two German graduate panel surveys, they test this framework using growth curve models and Oaxaca–Blinder decompositions. The results indicate that ISM-experienced graduates enjoy a steeper wage growth after graduation and that they receive higher medium-term wages. This is partly attributable to their favourable self-selection. Under control of selection effects and competency gains from ISM, two mechanisms so far disregarded in the literature explain monetary returns to ISM: the steeper wage growth results from the higher likelihood of ISM-experienced graduates to increase their wage through employer changes.
