Research software versus mundane software: The gap between software usage and software mentioning. Hartstein, J. (2025, Februar). Research software versus mundane software: The gap between software usage and software mentioning. Vortrag auf der Konferenz 5th conference for Research Software Engineering in Germany, Karlsruhe.
Abstract
For the vast majority of researchers across disciplines, software use is an everyday practice, and data analysis is not the only way of scientific sensemaking with software. The talk presents survey results showing that research pipelines are populated with diverse types of software – among them software tailored for research purposes („research software“) as well as software covering broader tasks which are not specific to science („mundane software“). Laying the results against recent literature about software mentions in science reveals a gap between using software for research and mentioning it in publications: mundane software is widely used in science but goes often unreported.

Modeling and Visualizing Human Experience in a Knowledge Graph: Understanding and Predicting Emotional Reactions to Life Events. Azeroual, O. (2025, Februar). Modeling and Visualizing Human Experience in a Knowledge Graph: Understanding and Predicting Emotional Reactions to Life Events. Vortrag auf der Konferenz 14th International Conference on Software and Computer Applications (ICSCA 2025), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach to modeling human emotional responses using a knowledge graph and federated learning. By integrating decentralized data sources like social media and healthcare, we enable privacy-preserving predictions of emotional reactions, particularly in mental health and personalized recommendations.

Mapping the German Research Information Landscape - A joint initiative by KFiD and DINI AG FIS. Vortrag auf der Tagung euroCRIS Strategic Membership Meeting 2024, euroCRIS, Paris, Frankreich.
Abstract
More and more universities and research institutions in Germany make use of current research information systems (CRIS) and similar information systems to collect, process and analyze institutional research activities. With universities pushing to digitalize research management processes, new providers of information and database systems enter the market. The Commission for Research Information in Germany (KFiD) and the DINI Working Group Research Information and Systems have decided to launch a collaborative project to continuously monitor these fast-paced developments. The aim is to develop an interactive map of CRIS at German universities and research institutions that are currently planned or already in use.

Smart Data Stewardship: Innovating Governance and Quality with AI. Azeroual, O. (2024, November). Smart Data Stewardship: Innovating Governance and Quality with AI. Vortrag auf der Konferenz 16th International Conference on Knowledge Management and Information Systems (KMIS 2024), Porto, Portugal.
Abstract
In the modern digital landscape, data plays a crucial role in the competitiveness and efficiency of organizations. Data governance, which involves managing and ensuring data quality, faces increasing challenges due to the growing volumes and complexities of data. This paper examines how artificial intelligence (AI) offers innovative solutions for optimizing data governance and data quality. We present an AI-powered framework that includes components such as data integration, quality assurance, data protection monitoring, and compliance management. Through case studies and practical examples, we demonstrate how this framework can be implemented in real-world environments and the benefits it offers.
