Matthias Geils was born in Bremen in 1986. After finishing his bachelor studies in sociology at the Philipps-Universität, Marburg he completed the interdisciplinary master studies programme “Science and Society” at the Leibniz Universität, Hanover. His master thesis was on “The Risk Governance Framework and its Usefulness. The Debate about the BIVRC in Hanover” which he accomplished in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony. During his studies he worked as a tutor for the courses “Social Structure and Social Statistics” and “Problems of Socio-Cultural Evolution” at the Leibniz Universität, Hanover. He also worked as a research assistant on the “ProKind” project about early childhood intervention at the Institute of Public Finances at the Leibniz Universität, Hanover. From 2012 to 2015 he was a junior researcher at the Department of Communication Science at the WWU Münster. Lecturer for the research seminar “Media Accountability in a Democracy”. He has been a researcher for the DZHW since February 2018.
