Aliakbar Akbaritabar (Ali) studied economic sociology at the University of Milan where he received his 2nd PhD for his thesis “A quantitative sociology of academic work in an era of hyper-competition and rankings”. In a collection of articles, he studied covariates of the Italian sociologists’ research productivity, the macro level impact of Italian national research evaluation (VQR) on scientists’ publication behavior and determinants of temporal changes in Italian sociologists’ coauthorship networks. He obtained his 1st PhD from Allameh Tabatabaei University of Tehran, Iran, for a thesis on “Iranian’s cyber social capital” which focused on online social networks and the social supports people provided/received through these networks. From 2015-2018 he was a member of GECS (Research Group on Experimental and Computational Sociology) at the University of Brescia, Italy. Ali, a sociologist by training, has a deep interest in network analysis and computational social science. More on his background: https://akbaritabar.netlify.com/. Ali joined DZHW in September 2018.
