The Student Survey is a scientific trend study on the living and study conditions of students in Germany. Every four years, students from all over Germany are invited to participate in a nationwide online survey titled "One for All: The Student Survey in Germany". The range of topics covered by the study is multifaceted and enables differentiated analyses of issues relating to student life.
Apart from their social and economic situation, the survey examines study conditions, student attitudes and student commitment as well as students’ educational and life goals. Questions concerning the diversity of the student population in Germany and potential concomitant social disparities in higher education are central to the study. The special situation of students with health impairments is another important subject. The data form a basis for monitoring higher education in Germany in the framework of educational policy. In addition, they provide the scientific community with a valuable database for further research. Therefore they are published as a Scientific Use File via the DZHW Research Data Centre.
The Student Survey integrates the topics of earlier student surveys in Germany that were conducted separately and assembles them under a common roof: The Social Survey, the Student Survey of the University of Konstanz and the study "Studying with Impairments" have been included the Student Survey. In addition, the integrated survey collects the German data for EUROSTUDENT. To record the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students, the project conducted a special pandemic-related survey of nearly 25,000 students in Germany in the summer semester of 2020.
The Student Survey is a collaborative project led by DZHW, with the Research Group on Higher Education at the University of Konstanz as scientific cooperation partner. The German National Association for Student Affairs (DSW) is a practice partner in the project network. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
