German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies
The German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW) is a multidisciplinary research institution. Its work focuses on empirical research on highly qualified individuals, both within and outside the science system; questions concerning institutions, governance, and organisational structures in higher education and science; and the dynamics of scientific knowledge production, examined from an internationally comparative perspective.
Across its research areas, the DZHW conducts representative long-term surveys. It uses both quantitative and qualitative methods. It also examines data infrastructure and develops new methods for surveying and analysis. The DZHW provides quality-assured research data and information, both its own and from external sources, to the scientific community and for evidence-based policymaking on higher education and science at the federal, state, and institutional levels.
