Translation process optimisation in the context of the internationalisation of the FDZ-DZHW using the example of additional data publications (OptiDat)

Start of the project: 2026-Jan-01 - End of the project: 2027-Dec-31

The OptiDat project aims to strengthen the internationalisation and visibility of the data packages of the Research Data Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies of the DZHW (FDZ-DZHW) in the long term. The main component of the project is the development of efficient and sustainable processes for the bilingual publication and promotion of research data in order to permanently improve the reach of data publications and their international usability.

The optimisation aims to enable an efficient translation process for complex quantitative data sets and the associated documentation materials by streamlining existing processes as well as increasing automation and standardisation. The testing and integration of AI tools into the translation process is an important component of the process optimisation. In order to implement the developed processes in a sustainable manner, they are being tested in practice on five databases belonging to the FDZ-DZHW.

Accompanying public relations measures are planned to raise awareness of the bilingual databases among the international scientific community. In addition, technical enhancements to the FDZ search system (https://metadata.fdz.dzhw.eu/) will be implemented to improve the findability of English-language data sets.
