Capacities and competencies in dealing with hate speech and hostility to science (CAPAZ)

Start of the project: 2023-Jan-01 - End of the project: 2025-Dec-31

The overarching goal of CAPAZ (Capacities and competencies in dealing with hate speech and hostility to science) is to strengthen the resilience of the German science system against hostility to science and thus to improve the conditions for researchers' and research organizations' dialogue with society. To this end, the project is developing (1) a solid knowledge base on hostility to science in Germany, (2) a helpdesk for affected researchers and science communication professionals, (3) guidelines for capacity and competence building at universities and non-university research institutions, (4) a cross-university train-the-trainer program for communication professionals, and (5) a summer school for early career researchers. The project is coordinated by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society.

CAPAZ is a joint project of the following institutions: Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science (BSOPE) at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW), Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD), Bundesverband Hochschulkommunikation (BV_HK), Leibniz Institute for Media Research - Hans Bredow Institute (HBI), Freie Universität Berlin (FU), Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG).
