The project aims to gain insights into the use of textbooks in higher education from a user perspective and to identify future needs. A particular focus is on the comparison of digital and analog teaching materials. Furthermore, aspects of copyright law as well as the significance of Open Access offerings and "Open Educational Resources" (OER) in the teaching context are examined.
In order to allow a consideration from different perspectives, the study includes three sub-samples: (1) lecturers, (2) students, and (3) employees of German university libraries. A distinct survey instrument is developed for each sub-sample.
The German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) in Hannover is involved in the project as cooperation partner and supports the study with its professional expertise.
