Valeria Aman studied Library and Information Science at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Copenhagen. Valeria Aman was employed at the iFQ from May 2013 to December 2015, researching into appropriate bibliometric methods and indicators. Within the Competence Centre for Bibliometrics she participated in the development of a robust data infrastructure for bibliometric applications and conducted several bibliometric analyses and evaluations. With the move to DZHW in 2016 her research focus shifted to international scientific mobility and the associated production and transfer of knowledge.

What effects does international mobility have on scientists’ careers? A systematic review. Research Evaluation, 29(3), 327-351. https://doi.org/10.1093/reseval/rvaa007
Abstract

The internationalization and specialization of science confront scientists with opportunities and sometimes even a need to become internationally mobile during their careers. Against this background, we systematically reviewed empirical studies on the effects that mobility across national borders has on the careers of scientists. Using several search channels, we identified 96 studies – published between 1994 and 2019 – that examine how international mobility influences eight dimensions of scientists’ careers.

Abstract

This study introduces a new bibliometric approach to study the effects of international scientific mobility on knowledge transfer. It is based on an analysis of internationally mobile and non-internationally mobile German scientists publishing in journals that are indexed in Scopus. Using bibliometric data such co-authored articles, references and lexical abstract terms from the Scopus database, a method is presented that is based on cosine similarity to measure the similarity of the knowledge base of authors and their co-authors. This quantifiable method is capable of revealing potential knowledge transfer between internationally mobile scientists and different types of co-authors.

Abstract

The evaluation of medical research performance is key for scientists’ careers. The Journal Impact Factor does not appropriately measure research impact. One contribution to a modified multidimensional evaluation system can be an author’s impact on guideline work. The objective of this contribution is to analyse the impact of medical scientists on clinical guidelines taking authors of oncological guidelines as example.
