Alexander Schniedermann is a research associate at the department "Research System and Science Dynamics". His current research accompanies the emergence of basic services for the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in Germany. It focuses on the epistemic and social impacts of practices and actors that emerge from new professions, such as research data management and research software engineering. Alexander's work usually combines scientometric and webometric analyses with qualitative interviews and document analyses.
In 2026, he obtained his doctoral degree (CWTS, Leiden University) for his research about guidelines for the reporting of evidence syntheses in biomedical research. Before his doctoral research, Alexander studied "History, Philosophy, and Economics of Science" at Bielefeld University, where he received a master's degree with a thesis about data reuse in science. Besides his research, he serves as an Ombudsgroup member for the German STS association stsing e.V. and engages in the Kompetenznetzwerk Bibliometrie.
