Abstract

As entry rates in German higher education have grown considerably, student diversity is of particular concern for educational politics. To shed light on the role of diversity for study success, the paper first focuses on a broad range of social, individual, and organizational diversity factors. Furthermore, study success is investigated in terms of how challenging students perceive the formal and informal requirements of the first year in higher education. Drawing on a student survey conducted after the first year of studies, the study then uses multiple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship of diversity and the perception of requirements.

Digitale Bildungspraktiken von Studierenden. Daten- und Methodenbericht zur qualitativen Erhebung der Studie DEPS 2018. Version 1.0.0. Kassel/Hannover.
Abstract

The research project reconstructs students' practices in dealing with digital technologies and asks which digital practices exist for their studies. Digital practices are understood to be those in which the use of digital technologies is incorporated. This research focus is important because digital technologies have become part of students' everyday life. However, little is known about how digital technologies are actually used for studying - if they are used for studying at all - and whether digital practices have developed in the course of study. Although there are various studies on the ownership and [...] Full Abstract: https://doi.org/10.21249/DZHW:dps2018:1.0.0

Abstract

Based on an analysis of maximally contrasting cases (institutions of higher education, subjects) it was examined how the change in appointment procedures affects the relation of the participating actors and their enactment of institutional logics. For this purpose, eight universities and four Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) with different profiles were selected originally. The analysis is concentrated on the subjects sociology/social sciences (university + UAS), engineering (university + UAS), physics (university) and medicine (university) in order to cover subject-specific differences [...] Full abstract: https://doi.org/10.21249/DZHW:lib2016:1.0.0
